CentOS 6.2 TDSM questions
« on: July 16, 2012, 11:13:17 AM »
 8) Cool board guys, been very helpful reading through the wold posts. I had a few "how to" questions if anyone can help me out. I started with a default server using screen on my server. I have a few players that rotate throughout the day on it - everything has been going great! However, how do I "restart" the server? I can kill the process, but I was curious if there was a command I could issue instead.

Also, I intend on resetting the world to a large map here shortly. I already changed the properties file to my liking, however I left the world destination path at this moment, as I was informed to launch a new world you can just change the path/name of the world file and it will generate with the given settings - will this cause a problem if I attempt to restart the world I already have?

Thanks for any and all responses! (Sorry if repost)

There is a `restart` command you could use, else `exit` or `stop` to save and shut down; Then you can launch the server again.

This may help you out if you have not seen it already: http://wiki.tdsm.org/index.php?title=Commands

Cheers.

The restartcommand will only restart and then reload the current world. It won't generate the new world. As said, you would need to exit the server or kill the process. Upon reloading of the server it will generate the new world.

Also, you could restart the server from the WebKit web interface, but of course that would be the same as the restart command.

Changing things in the server.properties file while the server is running won't cause issues, nor will using the restart command. If it does, let us know (submit a bug report).  ;)
Server Machine: Xubuntu 11.10 Xfce Mono 2.10.5
Thanks to all those who work on TDSM. It's a great alternative to the official one. And thanks to the plugin devs too for making it even better.

Thanks for the fast reply guys! Yeah I learned that TDSM had a help command, which told me about restart. Thanks for the information though! Also, I can change the server properties just as you said and it won't effect the current world - even after I kill the process (I had to try  ;D). The only way the server properties will generate a new world if either a. I delete the current named world or b. change the name/directory in which the server.properties points. Thanks for the useful information! I'll check into that web kit!
