Plugin List / Index (Discussion)
« on: September 28, 2011, 11:55:32 AM »
EDIT: The list has been created at: http://www.tdsm.org/index.php/topic,567.0.html Just fyi.

I had an idea about making a topic to list all the plugins available for tdsm and linking to them. They could also be categorized a bit. I was wondering if this would be a good addition to the forum and worth my effort. I would try to maintain it as much as possible, updating it with new plugins and changing things as needed. I don't think it would need to be separated by build, as I think that would make it a lot of work to maintain, and when plugins are updated, the link to them doesn't change.

A small guide/description of the list will be about here, before the list informing new members of the forum about how to use the list and some common information about installing and getting plugins working. Maybe if it's a lot more than I anticipate, I will make a new topic on it and just link to it here. But I realize people are unlikely to read it if they have to go load up another page and read it too. Also add about installing the correct .net version.

I was thinking of something like this: (the plugin names will be linked to the topic page)

Quick Nav: Category 1 | Category 2

Category 1

Plugin Name 1 (Latest Build:b35 / Version:0.1.0)
Description description description description description description description description...

Plugin Name 2 (Latest Build:b35 / Version:0.1.0)
Description description description description description description description description...

Category 2

Plugin Name 1 (Latest Build:b35 / Version:0.1.0)
Description description description description description description description description...

 Plugin Name 2 (Latest Build:b35 / Version:0.1.0)
Description description description description description description description description...

I think this might help new members and guests find the plugins easily. Let me know if this should be done. If you are in favor, tell me what the categories should be and what else I should do with it. How would it be easier to use? This doesn't seem to support "anchor" (bbcode) so I suppose the Quick Nav won't be possible, or will it? Well the goto bbcode is what doesn't seem to work. But maybe I won't do categories anyway.

I'm mainly looking for a moderator to give me an ok on this, but I do want to know if people will use it.  ;)

Thanks to all those who work on TDSM. It's a great alternative to the official one. And thanks to the plugin devs too for making it even better.

I'm more than happy enough for you to go ahead with this. I reckon it would be a very useful addition to the forums. and if you get most/all of them up, I'll even sticky it for you :P
If I do not respond to You or a Thread, its DeathCradles fault, blame him :P

This is a very good idea. I was kinda lost when I first browsed the plugins, especially with the versions being out of date, I was unsure of what would work with the latest build of TDSM.

With a nice listing of confirmed working plugins, people new to TDSM will be able to "shop" for plugins much easier.

I'd also suggest adding a note somewhere in the list about the whole "right click/allow" nonsense for the DLL files, and if they still won't load, running Windows Update might fix things. I know this information is posted in numerous locations, but people still seem to miss this critical information somehow.

I suppose I could make a small description before the list as a guide to finding the right plugin and such, also list the unblock thing for dlls. I could also somehow "confirm" plugins as working but I'm not quite sure how to do that yet. I suppose I could add something at the end of the version to say "(confirmed working with b35)" for instance, but it may be hard to maintain. I would probably rely a lot on people posting on the topic for this to tel me what's confirmed and what's no longer working. With the next release of TDSM I think plugins should stop breaking so much on new releases according to what I have read about the api.

I still welcome new ideas/suggestions.  :D

EDIT: Also, can I use anchors, and how?

I've just had a hunt around and found that you can use anchors like so:
Code: [Select]
[anchor=name]Heading[/anchor]
[iurl=#name]Click here to go to heading[/iurl]

Edit: Didn't notice you'd found out already. Could be useful to others though.

Yeah. Thanks though!  :D

I was just fooling around and decided to do it like html does it with the hash mark and use the url tag. I just did
Code: [Select]
[url=#anchornamehere]test[/url] though. Idk what iurl is, never seen that one. What is it?

What does everyone think should happen to the current list upon a new TDSM build release? I've been thinking if I change all plugins on there as "Not Working", then people like myself who plan to keep b35 for a bit until the plugins they use are updated, won't have this current list telling them what works with b35...

I'm not sure how I should handle that. Should I just update the list and just don't worry about having a list for people with b35 to refer to? Of course I wouldn't keep a list for every build since new members will only be able to obtain the newest build and won't care about plugins working with previous builds.

Idk, maybe this doesn't matter to anyone. Please let me know what you all think. Maybe there is a better system for keeping track of build compatibility.

Hmm, I'd say update it for the newest build. The people who still have build 35 are unlikely to need a plugin list in the short time it will take for plugin authors to update.

Could you get rid of the scrolling text in your signature? It's hard to read and is just distracting.

Why not have seperate sections in your post for each build, and place the most updated version of each plugin into it. Thus, you would have build35, and the plugins which latest version works with b35 would go in there, and the same for b36,37,38 etc.
